Warehouse and Delivery Assistant
Metro Caring is a hunger relief and self-sufficiency organization serving Denver area residents. Metro Caring distributes 1.6 million pounds of nutritious, fresh food in its market every year. This is accomplished by working with donor organizations to rescue surplus food that would otherwise be wasted.
Metro Caring is looking for a candidate to support its efforts by working with our food donors to coordinate and pick up donated food, and deliver, unload, sort, and store donations in the Metro Caring warehouse. This position will monitor and stock the market, and interact daily with many of the 300 weekly volunteers who support Metro Caring. This position will also help track and report on all aspects of warehouse operations, and have warehouse opening and closing responsibilities.
Specific duties and responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the following:
- Process in-kind food donations, to include:
- Delivering food donations to the Metro Caring warehouse
- Loading and unloading food donations
- Weighing donations
- Logging and tracking donations, and completing detailed receipts for donations
- Sorting food donations
- Leading volunteers in the tasks above
- Driving a truck (as large as 26’) to pick up donations across the Denver Metro area
- Weekly and monthly data entry and reporting
- Receive, sort, and report on government food donations
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with in-kind donors by exhibiting reliability and professionalism
- Stock market shelves according to a First-In First-Out (FIFO) inventory rotation system
- Warehouse and market maintenance, food safety related duties, and food storage organization
- Daily opening and closing duties
- Provide occasional programmatic support in the market
- Provide occasional supervision for work groups and special volunteers as requested
- Learn and follow ServSafe guidelines
- Operate warehouse equipment including, pallet jack, power stacker, and hydraulic lift
Skills and Qualifications:
Required:
- Prior experience and ability to maneuver, navigate, and drive a box truck (up to 26’)
- A current valid Colorado driver’s license and clean driving record (a Motor Vehicle Report will be run for insurance purposes)
- Demonstrated familiarity with the Denver Metro area and suburbs
- Working knowledge of general truck maintenance
- Professionalism and a courteous manner
- Ability to sort donated food items and lift heavy boxes (60 lbs.)
- Ability to climb up into the back of a delivery truck
- Ability to operate heavy equipment such as pallet jack, power stacker, or hydraulic lift
- Quick learner, independent, and motivated
- Ability to work well with all kinds of people in a busy environment
- Willingness to work weekend shifts (1/2 days)
- Demonstrated reliability and work ethic
Preferred:
- Organizational skills to maintain a clean, organized, and consolidated market and warehouse
- Flexibility to balance many different tasks simultaneously, with frequent interruptions in a busy service oriented environment
- Strong communication skills to assign tasks to volunteers or to convey information to donors, volunteer, and staff
