Location: Alzheimer’s Association – Greater Illinois Chapter; Springfield, IL
Position Summary: The Alzheimer's Association is seeking a dynamic, motivated and organized individual to provide coordination and delivery of education programs as well as scheduling/implementing outreach and awareness activities pertaining to Alzheimer’s disease in the assigned territory. Focus is on recruiting, training supervising and motivating volunteers to assist with Chapter education and outreach efforts.
The ideal candidate should know the Springfield and veteran community well, be very comfortable with public speaking and have experience managing volunteers. Knowledge of aging and/or Alzheimer's disease a plus. This is a full-time position requiring occasional evening and weekends. Veteran or military-experienced candidates encouraged to apply.
Job Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate and implement education programs in compliance with Association and Chapter standards.
- Build, maintain, and strengthen community partnerships and promote awareness of the Association and its mission by attending networking meetings and events.
- Work closely with the Communications staff to implement effective marketing tools for local education programs.
- Identify and secure host sites for face-to-face education programs; promote Audio Conferences, webinars and other virtual education opportunities.
- Recruit, train and supervise volunteers that are considered para-professionals, i.e., volunteers that deliver community education programs without staff supervision; work with volunteers regularly in committees and in one-on-one situations throughout the year.
- Represent the Association within the community by participating in civic organizations, committees, workgroups, etc.
- Assist with coordination and promotion of yearly conferences and/or seminars as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, human services, gerontology, or related field.
- 1-3 years of relevant work experience working in a human/social services setting.
- Proficient understanding of Alzheimer's disease and the aging process.
Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to envision new or improved methods, procedures, products, or ideas in delivering education and outreach to the community at large;
- Ability to refine established ideas as well as independent thinking and resourcefulness in the areas of education and outreach;
- Project management skills: ability to maintain a portfolio of approximately 30 programs, each involving multiple process steps;
- Critical competencies include but are not limited to: effective communication skills, relationship management, time management, and ability the to work well in a team environment;
- Networking/sales ability to move people to action;
- Access to senior networks;
- Microsoft Office / databases;
- Good speaking voice / diction / skills for presenting.
Travel: Frequent within the specific geographic area; automobile with valid driver’s license and insurance required.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Must be able to work weekends during Walk to End Alzheimer’s season (September & October).
The ideal candidate will be a highly organized, motivated self-starter with who can work independently, has a strong attention to detail and has the capacity to manage multiple parallel projects or assignments.
