Position Overview:
The Pump Mechanic will service and repair rotating equipment pertaining to refineries, power plants, large municipalities and others. These services and repairs include, but are not limited to, overhung, between bearings, multi stage, horizontal split, reciprocating and positive displacement pumps, gear boxes, and blowers and turbines. Understanding and adhering to the API 610 engineering standards and specifications, while maintaining customer service and safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Experience at an OEM or significant pump repair shop.
• Knowledge of Goulds, Floway, Flowserve, Ruhrpumpen, Union, Weir, and others.
• Experience repairing API type pumps.
• Knowledge of pump metallurgy fundamentals and rotating equipment, operating clearance.
• Extensive experience repairing and rebuilding on horizontal multistage pumps.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments.
• Disassemble, cleans, and inspects machinery or equipment to remove parts and make repairs.
• Perform (RCA) Root Cause Analysis; examine parts for defects, such as breakage or excessive wear.
• Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery or equipment.
• Repair or maintain the operating condition of industrial production or processing machinery or equipment.
• Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
• Operate newly repaired machinery or equipment to verify the adequacy of repairs.
• Record/document repairs and maintenance performed.
• Study blueprints or manufacturers' manuals to determine correct installation or operation of machinery.
• Record parts or materials used, and order or requisition new parts or materials as necessary.
• Observe and test the operation of machinery or equipment to diagnose malfunctions.
• Responsible for the proper care and maintenance of company equipment assigned to area.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• 5-10 years overall pump repair experience.
• 2 years experience as Leadsman in a pump repair setting desirable.
• Strong mechanical ability.
• Able to read and sketch mechanical drawings.
• Proficient with precession measuring tools.
• Strong understanding of API standards.
• Strong understanding of metal characteristics.
• Familiar with pump engineering and design.
• Experience with mechanical seal construction and applications.
• Familiar with machining practices.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
• Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Able to work in a non-climate controlled shop area.
• Able to stoop and bend repeatedly, on a regular basis.
• Able to work in heavy noise environment.
• Able to work 40 hours per week with occasional overtime when needed.
• Different work shifts available.
Education and Experience:
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Pump mechanic apprenticeship preferred.
• Associated pump mechanic schools desirable.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a pump mechanic.
