Cost Accountant
The cost accountant position is accountable for the ongoing analysis of process constraints, target costing projects, margin analysis, and tracing costs back to underlying activities. The cost accountant must also construct and monitor those cost-effective data accumulation systems needed to provide an appropriate level of costing information to management.
Responsible for cost control including managerial accounting, bill of material audits, and various cost analysis. Works closely with manufacturing operations to understand issues and how they impact the financial results as well as educate/inform departments on cost drivers and variances. Supports month-end close and special projects as requested.
Responsibilities include:
• Plans study of and collects data from the ERP system and other sources to determine costs of business activities such as manufactured products, labor and overhead application
• Analyzes actual manufacturing costs and prepares periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and changes in standard costs
• Records and reports cost information for use in controlling expenditures, conducting audits as necessary
• Insures that inventory transactions/processes/policies are complete and supports the accuracy required for both manufacturing and financial control
• Compiles cost information to be used in both capital and operating budget preparation
• Provides management with reports summarizing profitability of products and services
• Performs maintenance of the ERP system to support accumulation of cost accounting data.
• Makes estimates of new and proposed product or service costs
• Assist in the preparation of month end and year end close, including reporting
• Cross-training to serve as back-up and support to AP, AR & bank reporting
• Ad-hoc reporting and special project studies, as needed
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• Minimum of three years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or wholesale distribution environment
• Understands GAAP, basic accounting principles, and performs a variety of accounting functions
• Excellent analytical skills
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of inventory accounting in a lot traceability driven environment
