POSITION SUMMARY: The Heavy Equipment Assistant’s principal duties will include performing a variety of mechanical and maintenance duties under the supervision and guidance of the diesel mechanics in both an outdoor and indoor environment which may involve working in adverse weather conditions and related hazards.

- Safety is your #1 job function. You are responsible for ensuring that all employees and any one we interact with are not harmed by our action or inaction. Ensure every employee understands their number one job duty is SAFETY. Ensure they have the proper protective equipment and the proper training on all equipment/processes to perform their job duties. Understand and comply with the MSHA regulations. Enforce safety rules and regulations.
- Repairs / Rebuilds: Train and complete repairs and/or rebuilds on all heavy equipment.
- Maintenance: Assist Diesel Mechanics with maintaining and repairing heavy equipment.
- Knowledge: Ability to learn and understand all parts of all mobile and heavy equipment.
- Inspections: Ability to do thorough pre/post equipment inspections.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Service Records: Maintain service records (using work orders) and assist in maintaining a parts inventory and daily orders with purchasing clerk.
- Maintenance: Assist in fueling and lubing equipment.
- Housekeeping: Responsible for maintaining good housekeeping by clearing out all excess materials; care for all company equipment, tools, and property as if their own. Perform other general physical labor duties.
- Electrical Systems: Work alongside Diesel Mechanics to troubleshoot, diagnose and make repairs to heavy equipment and automotive electrical systems.
- Shop Truck: Maintain mobile shop truck and work areas to ensure a safe and clean work environment.
- Ability to perform the following duties: Fabricate, weld, modify and install specialized equipment using air compressors and other mechanical equipment.
- Tune-Ups: Perform engine tune-ups including computerized control systems.
- Supports Chain of Command: Keep Diesel Mechanic and designated personnel fully and accurately informed on work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems. .
- Other: Perform other general duties as assigned or delegated
Qualifications:
• Trade school certification OR 1-2 years of experience with heavy equipment
