STEP VAN MECHANIC: We are looking for experienced mechanics to perform mechanical work on step vans, like that of Federal Express, DHL, UPS, Purolator, Cintas, etc.
Basic trouble shooting and diagnostics is a must. The rest is general "fleet" maintenance. After a couple of weeks you will be trained our PMI inspection. The PMI is the J.O.B. and this will also ensure the safety of every vehicle that leaves any of our facilities.
We supply a service bay, and all manufacturer web based knowledge necessary to perform all service that we can do in house. Job knowledge is based on over all knowledge of diesel and gas engines.
We have International Vt365's, T444e's, and 7.3 naturally aspirated engines. Cummins isb-01, Cummins 6bt, and isb-07. Mercedes Benz 904. In the gas engine category we delve in all GMC engines, 4.3 liter, 4.8 liter, and 6.0 liter. Transmission work is wide spread also, both generations of the Allison along with Spicer and Eaton's.
We have openings for semi-retired mechanics looking to be part of a small gung-ho company and looking for 1099 night work for filler work for regular mechanic "call-ins" or vacations at companies we work with. This is all third shift night work, Sunday through Fridays. The door is wide open for retired veterans, as we are proud to hire our retired military.
In addition, we operate our own garage where we perform engine, transmission and axle swaps for our customers. This work is performed day and night, so we get our customer vehicles back as soon as possible. Sometimes we use our service trucks and go to their locations for minor swaps. We also run roadside service calls and wrecker service for our customers.
For the months of Mid-November, December and the first two weeks of January, we can keep you working 50 hours a week (not that you have to work 50 hours, as we have mechanics whom desire to work less), typically at the same location. This time period is the season for UPS, FedX, etc. whom are our clients. During the other 10 months the work is at different locations mentioned below, and not consistent on a daily basis, but usually you can get two or three shifts a week.
Most work is in the Charleston South Carolina area. However, your ability to travel to places like Myrtle Beach, Florence, Paris Island, Orangeburg, is a plus, as this will open up more positions and locations to work. You will be compensated for your drive time, gas and hotel (if desired) if drive is more than 60 miles away from where you live.
Starting hourly 1099 pay is $25 an hour, once going through a forty hour training program. Upon finishing our training program and then trained and certified to perform our PMI program, then your pay level is raised to $30 an hour. Our goal is not to train you as a mechanic, but to train you our PMI system. Therefore, your previous experience as a mechanic is important.
