Job Title: Senior Mechancial Engineer

Position Overview:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will design plastic parts and assemblies for use in patient simulators to meet customer requirements. They will select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes. They will also conceptualize new designs using rapid prototyping technologies.
Principal Accountabilities:
• On time delivery of tasks to meet project schedules
• Produce design quality to meets Laerdal standards for high quality and robustness
• Follow proper design controls (design review, design verification) processes
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide quality service to Laerdal’s internal and external customers in all assigned tasks, while upholding Laerdal Values at all times.
• Work with teams to create simulation products that are highly aesthetic and realistic in look and feel
• Conceptualize products and ideas and communicate with 3D illustrations
• Evaluate feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production cost/methods, and market demands
• Balance product requirements in close cooperation with product designers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, human factors, product management, and production
• Fabricate working prototypes and models
• Create models in 3D CAD
• Create specification documents, 2D drawings, and exploded views
• Select appropriate materials and production processes to optimize functions, quality and cost.
• Research advancement in materials, adhesives, and production processes
• Research advancements in medical procedures and techniques and their impact to product design
• Design and develop actuators for various mechatronic functions
• Design, run, and document tests characterizing performance of mechatronic systems
• Support design verification and validation of new components and systems.

Qualifications/Competencies/Position Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong communication, analytical, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Diplomatic, respectful, and empathetic
• Computer literate; able to utilize MS Office Suite, MS Project
• Ability to utilize 3D CAD
• Experience with Injection Molding part design
• Ability to effectively communicate technical initiatives to non-technical people
• Understanding and experience in material selection
• Ability to work with vendors, customers, and team members
• Must excel at working in a team environment
• Excellent problem analysis and problem resolution at both a strategic and functional level
• Must excel on working in a multicultural environment
• Initiative and follow-through, handling multiple priorities well
• Documentation (specifications, test plans, BOMs, ECOs) creation, management, and changes
• Experience with DFM/DFA
• Ability to create product specifications, test or supervise testing, and qualify final products to Laerdal’s high quality standards
• Experience in rapid prototyping
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering required
• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in engineering
Working Hours:
• Hours may vary and will require evening and weekend work depending on business needs
Working Environment:
• Works in both an office and manufacturing environment
• Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, chemicals, solvents, and fumes.
Tools and Equipment Used:
• Machining tools and hand tools
• Personal computer, copier, fax, phone, and other typical office equipment
Travel:
• International and domestic travel required
Physical Demands:
• Must occasionally be able to lift up to 40 pounds
• Must be able to work around chemical based paints and solvents
• Ability to communicate with customers and/or other team members via phone or in person
• Body motor skills sufficient to enable incumbent to move from one office location to another
