Job Description
We seek to hire a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Analyst in our Virginia Beach, VA office who will be responsible for performing and directing GIS duties on stand-alone GIS and multi-discipline projects.
General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
•Develop GIS applications and spatial solutions
•Configure and support GIS Desktop and cloud applications
•Develop reports of geodatabase spatial queries
•Provide GIS techniques training
•Develop GIS presentations
•Assist in analyzing GIS project requirements
•Document GIS product procedures
•Troubleshoot GIS application problems
•Maintain accurate and concise records of GIS data
•Train GIS technicians
•Perform Global Positioning System (GPS) data collection and processing
•Be familiar with Remote Desktop and Virtual Machines
•Working with, responding to, and taking direction from the Director of GIS and Civil Department Director
•Assist in representing Clark Nexsen GIS team to clients
•Mentoring and monitoring the professional development of GIS Technicians
Project responsibilities include:
•Adhere to project budget and schedule
•Develop GIS technical project-specific action plan
•Consult with other disciplines as the technical liaison between the GIS and those adding information to the database
•Perform preliminary Quality Control for data before the formal Technical Review
•Build and manage geometric validation rules
•Incorporate internal and client review comments in the geodatabase
•Aid in technical planning of field data collection
•Provide support and participate in field data collection
Education
A college degree on one of the following educational tracks is required:
•Degree from an accredited 4-year program in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering, OR
•Degree from an accredited 4-year program in another discipline plus a GIS certificate from an accredited institution (minimum of 16 credit hours)
Master's Degree in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering is desirable
Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations
•Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) Certification is desirable
•ESRI industrial certification for ArcGIS Desktop is desirable
Software Skills
Proficiency in the use of the following software programs is desirable:
•Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
•ArcGIS for Desktop
•ArcGIS Extensions (3D Analyst & Spatial Analyst)
•GPS eView & EGIS
•Google Earth Professional
•Adobe Acrobat
Knowledge in the use of the following software programs is desirable:
•ArcGIS Specialized Extensions (Arc Photo & Arc Hydro)
•ERDAS Imagine
•Pictometry for ArcGIS POL
•TerraGo Publisher
•Microsoft Office Visio
•ArcGIS Data Reviewer
•AutoCAD & Civil 3D
•Microstation
Career Experience
•A minimum of 4 years of consulting experience working with a GIS system and Data Management system; OR
•A minimum of 2 years of consulting experience working with a GIS system and Data Management system with a Master’s Degree in Geography, GIS, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering
In addition, must possess a high level of understanding of GIS software and functions with advanced knowledge of coordinate systems and conversion requirements; an understanding of geodatabase schemas and editing procedures, and georeferencing protocols.
Design Project Experience
Implementation experience in one or more of the following types of projects:
•Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) GeoReadiness or GeoFidelis
•Infrastructure GIS projects (Storm, Water, Sanitary, Steam, Gas, Electrical, Communication, Compressed Air)
•Department of Defense (DOD) Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM)

•Ability to make presentations to a variety of groups.
