- Disaster Housing Inspectors needed asap. No experience needed but perfect for ex-military, FEMA, etc. You will be conducting on site inspections for houses affected by the recent storms. Must pass a basic background check, be able to use a computer, and you need a valid driver's license.
Thank you for taking interest in being a Disaster Housing Inspector for FEMA. This opportunity is with Vanguard Inspection Services. Vanguard IS Disaster Inspectors are independent contractors who have the opportunity to be deployed when a disaster (i.e. – fire, flood, hurricane, or tornado) has occurred and there has been a disaster declaration. The length of disaster declarations vary based on size and the amount of damage caused by the event.
Being a Disaster Housing Inspector can be both a rewarding and challenging experience. Successful Disaster Housing Inspectors are able to perform a variety of tasks. To ensure this is the right opportunity for you, see some examples below!
Tasks of a Successful Disaster Housing Inspector:
- Can verify ownership and occupancy of damaged homes
- Can record damages of the interior and exterior of damaged dwellings
- Can select viewed damages from a list of disaster related losses
- Can supply at your own expense needed items such as
- Tools (standard tape measure, rolling tape measure, clip board, notecards)
- Safety clothing and/or equipment (safety Glasses, safety boots)
- Has the opportunity to work 7 days a week during a deployment, often longer than 10 hours a day
- You can schedule and organize your own appointments
- Your expenses can be sent electronically throughout the week
- Your inspections will undergo Quality Control reviews
- Hourly pay for inspectors will be a minimum of $32 to $34.50
- Additional per inspection performance pay inspection rates: Novice Inspectors (0- 500 inspections) $39 per inspection, Intermediate inspectors (501-1,500 verified inspections) $44 per inspection, Advanced (1,501+ verified inspections) $50 per inspection. All inspectors are reimbursed for allowable field expenses (rental cars, airfare, lodging, mileage if not using rental car) and will receive the GSA per diem rate daily while deployed.
To make this all happen you need a FEMA badge. This can be a traditional process or an expedited process. Due to current disasters and the urgent need for additional assistance, beginning 9/14/2021, FEMA has implemented an expedited security process which will not require the e-QIP initiation or collection for a minimum of 120 days. You will not be required to complete e-QIP as part of the security packet, at this time even though the website will still speak about e-QIP.
THIS EXPEDITED BADGING PROCESS INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS:
- VIP REGISTRATION - Go to the Vanguard IS website, https://vanguardhis.com, to get familiar with what we do, and follow the prompts to complete the “New Inspector” registration. On the Create New User page, PLEASE BE SURE TO FIND THE PULL DOWN MENU FOR “REFERRING COMPANY” and select GEM – Hurricane IDA._ Upon confirmation that your registration is complete, Vanguard adjudication staff will initiate your prescreening process with Good Hire._
- PRESCREENING – You will receive an email from Good Hire with instructions on how to complete the prescreening process.
- COMPLETE AND SUBMITTING THE REQUIRED FEMA FORMS PACKET – Upon receiving favorable results from your prescreening process, Vanguard IS adjudication staff will send you the required FEMA forms to complete and return to Vanguard for submission to FEMA Security for processing. We would like you do complete these in a day or two.
- TRAVEL TO WINCHESTER, VA – Upon receiving a favorable determination based on a review of your packet by FEMA Security, you will be contacted by a member of our Vanguard IS staff to help make immediate arrangements for you to travel to Winchester, VA. to submit fingerprint cards and be issued a FEMA 120-day badge at a badging appointment. At this time you are now eligible to be paid for your support of the program. Your will be paid for your time in Winchester for your fingerprint/badging appointment and for daytime travel (within reason) to complete this process. Provided you follow the federal travel guidelines we will also be able to reimburse you for your travel expenses on your trip to Winchester.
- DISASTER DEPLOYMENT. At the end of you will be advised if there is an immediate spot for you to start work in one of several states impacted by the recent hurricanes. So when you travel to Winchester, in addition to having your required IDs and forms for the badging appointment, it may be appropriate for you to have your bags packed for your first field deployment to start work !
PLEASE NOTE: THIS EXPEDITED BADGING EVENT IS FOR THOSE ABLE TO TRAVEL TO WINCHESTER, VA. TO RECEIVE A FEMA BADGE AND BE AVAILABLE TO RESPOND TO DISASTERS DURING THIS CURRENT HURRICANE SEASON. IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO TRAVEL TO WINCHESTER, VA. AND WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR POTENTIAL DEPLOYMENT, PLEASE DO NOT PURSUE THIS PROCESS AT THIS TIME.
