Permit Specialist Supervisor

This position is under minimal supervision, plans and supervises the permitting staff and work activities of the Permitting Division.  This includes oversight of customer services functions; permit intake and issuance services; the coordination of the Permitting Division activities with other County departments; and providing complex staff assistance.  May receive and process permit applications for new construction, alteration and repair work on commercial and residential projects.

  • Supervises the work of subordinate personnel as assigned; supervisory duties may include instructing, planning, assigning and reviewing work; coordinating activities; maintaining standards; allocating personnel; assisting with new employee selection; acting on employee problems; recommending and issuing employee discipline.
  • Identified and corrects behavioral and performance issues of assigned personnel.
  • Establishes and implements a performance and behavioral correction plan that encourages employees to perform at their maximum potential.
  • Offers training, advice and assistance as needed.
  • Prepares annual evaluations for permitting staff.
  • Greets customers and provides professional and courteous customer service; explains permitting procedures to the public as needed.
  • Prepares and distributes / mails permit packets upon request.
  • Oversees, manages and ensures efficiency of the processing of permit applications within the Building Department; provides enhanced workflow recommendations as needed.
  • Creates and maintains schedules, ensuring all required deadlines are met in accordance with applicable Federal, State and Local laws, ordinances, policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring departmental compliance with Nassau County’s Customer Care Standards.
  • Answers phones and directs calls to appropriate department.
  • Receives, processes and tracks permit applications.
  • Assesses, receives and receipts permit fees; balances cash drawer; prepares deposits.
  • Issues building permits and certificates of occupancy.  Reviews and tracks expired permits.  Prepares/processes letters for expiring permits.  Follows up with Code Enforcement for further action, as needed.
  • Assists in compiling data and information as needed for inspections, reports and meetings.
  • Verifies permits for accuracy prior to issuing.
  • Performs clerical work as required for contractor licensing and testing.  Conducts file maintenance on contractors files.

This position requires a High School Diploma or GED supplemented by a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience and six (6) years of general clerical or customer service experience; or any equivalent combination of training, education, or work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. May require a valid State Driver’s License.

 

The salary range for this position is $50,430.71 – $76,736.64. The County provides a comprehensive benefits program and participates in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) and has a 3% employee contribution requirement.
